Stupid, Yet Brilliant Online Business Ideas That Made Someone Rich

Continuing on from my last post in a weird sort of way, I have decided to list 10 online business ideas that sound really stupid, yet they have managed to make their creator rich. I have known about this list for a while, but it only just hit me to write about it after I finished my last post on "Making Money Online"

Anyway, here they are, the 10 stupidest sounding online business ideas.

1. Million Dollar Homepage

1,000,000 pixels on a webpage, each pixel selling for $1.00, tagline being "Own a piece of internet history"
It is probably the pure insanity in this idea that made it so popular, and also the $1 price per pixel is pretty cheap, so it’s no wonder people actually began buying pixels on this site. Despite how stupid this sounds, it happened to make the the 21 year old site owner, Alex Tew, a millionaire. Damn if only I had thought of this :(

2. Doggles

As the name suggests, it’s simply goggles, but here's the catch, for dogs. Yep you read right, let’s create goggles for dogs and then sell them online. Wow, this really is a stupid sounding idea, yet it made the people with the idea millionaires. Just shows people will buy anything, at least anything if they own a dog.

3. LaserMonks

Basically this is a site where real life monks refill your ink cartridges amongst other things they do. Now you wouldn’t imagine this would make much money, yet, I have heard their 2005 sales profited $2.5 million, so maybe it really isn’t that bad an idea.

4. SantaMail

This is a pretty clever idea. Get a postal address at North Pole and pretend that you actually are Santa clause. Then charge parents all over $10 to send a personalized letter to their kids. Byron Reese has sent over 275,000 letters since the start of the business in 2001, which made him a millionaire. I am not too sure if this site is still actually running, but it still remains a stupid yet brilliant idea.

5. FitDeck

Create a deck of cards with exercise routines on them then sell them online. Doesn't sound like the cleverest of ideas to me, yet it happened to make former SEAL/Fitness Instructor, Phil Black, a millionaire.

6. AntennaBalls

Yep, Car antenna balls, lets create them, sell them online and become a millionaire. Yes, it does sound like a child dreamt this up, but it is exactly what Jason Wall did. Bet he is pleased he went along with this idea.

7. Designer Diaper Bags

Designer bags to carry around diapers for your baby, I spose it aint the stupidest of ideas, the money it has created certainly makes it sound professional enough. Making $180,000 in sales for 2005, Diapees & Wipees, has bags in 22 different styles, available online and in 120 boutiques across the globe for $14.99. Bet she is glad she is a mother, or else she will never have came up with this idea.

8. PickyDomains

Pay someone to think up a domain name for you. That is the general principle behind this idea, I think this site hit the 6 figure sum in profits in 2008, although I am not entirely sure.

9. PositivesDating.Com

Not the worst of ideas really, an online dating site, but for those that happen to be HIV positive. This site has at least 50,000 members I have heard and is making a decent amount of money as well.

10. Lucky Wishbone Co.

Yep, fake wishbones, you would never think this idea would take in money but you couldnt be more wrong. They make around 30,000 wishbones on a daily basis and sell for $3.00 a time. It’s just amazing to think people would actually buy fake wishbones.

Well there you go. The 10 stupidest ideas for an online business, yet it could be claimed that the stupidity is what makes it so successful.

Once again, Thanks for reading this post
